SHERMAN — Funeral service for Doris Jean Cantrell will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. Dr. Mark Berrier will officiate. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Cantrell, 84, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016, at the Traditions Senior Living in Sherman.
Doris was born Sept. 8, 1931, near Royse City, Texas, to the late D.E. and Alma (Morgan) Houser. She graduated from Royse City High School in 1948 and married Orvie Lee Cantrell on Dec. 24, 1948, at their minister's house in Royse City. She and Orvie Lee had enjoyed 66 years of marriage when he passed away in July 2015.
Mrs. Cantrell was a longtime member of the Central Christian Church in Sherman and served on several committees, including the Christian Women's Fellowship, of which she was the president several times. She was actively involved in community service, spending many years volunteering as a WNJ Pink Lady and serving at the Health Clinic in the Well Baby Clinic. She also was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and several other volunteer organizations.
Doris will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. There wasn't a kid or critter in her neighborhood that didn't know the way to Doris' house where she always had treats. When her kids would bring home the whole basketball team, she always found a way to feed them all!
Mrs. Cantrell is survived by her son, Orvie Lee Cantrell Jr. and wife Lynnette; a daughter, CJ Cantrell; and grandson Orvie Lee Cantrell III and wife Kenady.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Kenneth and Choyce Houser, and sisters DonNell Williams and Patsy Walton.
