Lawrence's Story

Pastor Lawrence Cox, 74 of Royse City, formerly of Madill, Okla., passed away May 2, 2011.  He was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Bonham to Leonard Clifton “Tip” and Ina Lenora “Ree” (Hendry) Cox.  At the time of his death, Lawrence was a retired Southern Baptist minister who pastored nine churches from 1959 to 1989 in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. From October 1989 until his retirement he was the director of missions in Madill, Okla. Lawrence led more than a dozen trips to Israel as a tour host, as well as numerous mission trips to Guatemala, Brazil and Russia. He was currently a member of Community Baptist Church in Royse City.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Evelyn “Sue” Cox; daughters Becky Illingworth and husband James, Amy Joslin and husband Les, Nancy Crowell and husband Scott and Melody East and husband Joe, all of Royse City; a sister, Fay Hall of Wichita Falls; grandchildren Kristal, Joshua, Cortney, Brook, Scott, Laura, Brandon, Cooper, Aaron, Ben, Nate and Patti; great-grandchildren Alexys, Corban, Brinley, Judson, Noah, Madison and Jackson; and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lois Boyett.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., May 5, at Community Baptist Church, 6012 Hwy 276, Royse City with Pastor Bart Barber officiating. Graveside services were at 10 a.m., May 6, at East View Memorial Cemetery in Vernon. 
Rest Haven-Royse City chapel was in charge of arrangements.
