Minnie's Story

Text size

Minnie Lenora Monk was the sixth of nine children born to William and Alice Monk on Jan. 12, 1915, in Hunt County. She went home to be with the Lord on May 25, 2015.
Minnie was a devoted Christian and a vessel unto honor in the service of the Lord, a loving mother and grandmother, a great influence in the lives of her family and friends. A most loving and kind person, Minnie lived with the thought that a mother’s love was not to be paid back, but passed on, and when relationships demanded commitment she was always there and always followed through.
She was considered an exceptionally incredible woman.
She is survived by one daughter, Robbie Sue Harrison Montgomery and husband Ricky of Garland; two granddaughters, Gina Combest and husband Chance and Shawna Bell and husband Kenneth, all of Garland; four great-grandchildren, Shiloh Sellers, Sawyer Combest, Zeth Bell and Jayce Bell; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, William Arvid and Alice Jane Monk; her first husband, Hubert Virgil Hancock, who gave his life for his country in 1944; second husband and father of her only daughter, Robert Neal Harrison; one child lost before birth; two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Joe, Elzie, Willis, John and Everett Monk; three sisters, Erlean Sherrill, Ina Hargis and Ima Gray; four sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.
She gave her heart to the Lord in 1930 and was faithful to the call of service to others. Minnie became a full-time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Richardson in 1981. She was there until 2006 when she moved her membership to Southside Assembly of God Church in Garland. Minnie was known for her faithfulness and loving support of the ministry and pastors she served under.
Her funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel with officiating. Interment followed in the Royse City Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at at the funeral home.
