Peggy Van Cleave Mask Rowan was born to Joe Benton Van Cleave and Dewitt (Sorrells) Van Cleave on Nov. 21, 1937, in Royse City and resided there her entire life.
She passed away Sept. 13, 2015, at the age of 77, surrounded by loved ones and her loyal dog, Rose, who refused to leave her side.
Peggy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Royse City and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She taught English, coached and was a librarian for 26 years at Royse City High School.
Peggy was loved by all who knew her for her easy laughter, generous spirit and love of life. She loved to entertain and enjoyed being surrounded by people and was often heard exclaiming, “And a good time was had by all!” Peggy possessed an ability to love with a depth unsurpassed by most. She loved deeply and fiercely. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have been enveloped by her strong love have been touched by an angel. Peggy was deeply intelligent, yet humble, and had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. She was compassionate and selfless to a fault and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Peggy is survived by her children, Charles Mask and wife Marguerite, Andrew Jones Mask, Rebecca Lee Toomey and husband Michael, and Abigail Linda Mask; sister Vanita Bass; grandchildren Charles, Joe, Jordan, Ian, Caleb, Lauren, Amy, Nathan and DeAnna; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Rowan; her parents; and two sisters, Virginia Van Cleave and Linda Fikes.
Graveside services for family and friends was held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in Royse City Cemetery.
A Night of Remembrance was Thursday, Sept. 17, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Royse City Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.
