Robert Louis Lowrie, 79, of Royse City, a beloved husband, father and PawPaw, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 8, 2013.
He was born March 20, 1934, in Azle, the son of Ross and Lola (Daniel) Lowrie. The family lived in Oklahoma in the early years, and then moved back to Munson. Robert started school in Whitehead, transferring to Royse City in middle school where he was active in football, basketball and boxing. He graduated in 1953 and joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1954 to 1956. Robert married Sue Steward on Aug. 16, 1957. They welcomed their son, Ronald Steward Lowrie, on March 12, 1967. Robert worked for Lone Star Gas from 1956 until 1964 when he joined the brotherhood of the Dallas Fire Department, where he served until his retirement in 1989. His love of the DFD created dear, long-lasting friendships. In later years Robert had the pleasure of taking care of his grandsons, Jeff and Matt. He also served as a Royse City volunteer firefighter for 26 years. He was a member of the Royse City Masonic Lodge for more than 46 years until his health began to decline in 2012.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sue (Steward) Lowrie; a son, Ronald Steward Lowrie; grandsons Jeff and Matt Lowrie; sisters Sue Lowrie Townsend and Barbara Lowrie Lehew and husband James; broth ers Jack and Anson Lowrie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Billye Lowrie Pemberton, Fay Lowrie Hunt, Jackie Lowrie Carter and Peggy Lowrie Roan-Nunn; and a niece, Billye Townsend Gwatney.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Sept. 13, at First United Methodist Church, 305 N. Josephine Street, in Royse City with Rev. Tim Marks, DRFFA Chaplain Denny Burris and Rev. Dan Bruce officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Royse City, Windows Fund, PO Box 327, Royse City, TX 75189.
