Wilburn O. Smith, 81, of Royse City passed away Feb. 11, 2015.
He was born Aug. 23, 1933, in Malakoff to Edgar Dance Smith and Ethel Lee (Ballard) Smith. Wilburn proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from Verizon (previously GTE) after 35 years of service, and then worked at Montgomery Ward and Auto Zone. Wilburn enjoyed fishing and sports, especially the Rangers, Cowboys and Mavericks.
He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Smith; daughters Robin Mullaney and husband James and Katrina Carswell and husband Randy; stepsons Richard Cook and Rusty Cook; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lucille and Bill Bell; grandchildren Kenyon Krause, Jason Krause and wife Jennith, Richard Cook Jr., Timothy Cook, Colton Cook and Darcy Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wilburn was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Adele Shanks, Faye Nell Watson and Delores Clark; and son Michael Smith.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 16, at Rest Haven Funeral Home — Royse City Chapel with Dean Pinney of First Christian Church officiating.
The family received friends Feb. 16 at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice or the Royse City Cemetery Association.
